We've lined up a couple of films that exist on opposite ends of the cinematic spectrum for this weekend's midnight offerings:
Beneath (2013)
Saturday, July 20
Midnight
Tickets: $10

Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter, Wendigo, Habit) returns from a six year directorial hiatus with Beneath (2013), a film about a group of teen friends stranded on a raft in the middle of a lake while a large, bloodthirsty fish swims below the murky depths. Fessenden normally crafts serious, character-driven horror films, but Beneath is a looser nature-run-amok film with a tongue planted firmly in cheek. You won't necessarily be rooting for the heroes, but Fessenden has fun playing with the watery atmosphere in this morality play full of selfish jerks. It's lighthearted fare perfect for a summer midnight!
Pitch Perfect (2012)
Friday, July 19 & Saturday, July 20
Midnight
Tickets: $10
Purchase Tickets: www.somervilletheatreonline.com
Pitch Perfect is a musical comedy from Jason Moore (Dawson's Creek) and was a surprise mega hit last summer in the tradition of Bridemaids, Bring it On, and Drop Dead Gorgeous. This is doubtless the result of its oddball mix of outrageous comedy, spunky cast, and...a capella? This crowd-pleasing gem will leave you with a smile on your face, and a song in your heart.
