We have a special treat for 80's monster movie fans when we present a rare 35mm screening of Tibor Takács fun, but incredibly dark coming-of-age film THE GATE.

The Gate concerns a trio of kids - siblings Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Al (Christa Denton) along with Glen's best pal Terry (Louis Tripp) - left to their own devices when Glen's and Al's parents leave them home alone for the weekend. They uncover a mysterious hole in the ground, unaware it's the gateway to hell smack in the middle of their suburban backyard! A combination of bad decisions accidentally unleashes tiny demons onto an unsuspecting world, and what transpires is a classic struggle of good vs. evil where the kids will come face-to-face with loss and mortality while battling the vicious little demons.

The Gate features stunning effects work using a combination of stop-motion animation and forced perspective film techniques, as well as some pretty nightmarish cinematography. If you saw it as a kid or teen, you may be surprised at how well the film holds up; you may also find new reasons to be scared while watching.
